About Hoezo

Intergrating Amsterdam's intimate spaces

I see two groups in Amsterdam who aren't connected well: those who speak Dutch and those who don't. And that's a shame!

Accessibility

My mission is to make Dutch courses more accessible by making them more enjoyable and fun.

I believe in offering something different. I hope to make Dutch Courses more attractive for expats.

Motivation

My primary task is to motivate students. For this purpose, a lesson should be part of a larger meaningful whole, have a clear goal in itself, provide a pleasant social and playful environment, and give energy. In a good course, necessity is replaced by willingness. The participants presence is the most important thing. Then, daring to participate in the group, actually using and experimenting with the language, will feel like a reward.

Relieving stress

Before we start the lesson, the student needs to be open to their surroundings. If they're tense, their affective filter is high, hindering learning. So, I use embodied learning—physical activities with theater and singing improvisation to lower this filter. Improvisation helps students feel free to make mistakes, making it an effective mindset tool.

Support

Because the process of learning a language takes time, building  relationships with participants is crucial. But beyond that, taking care of someone's progress by offering the participant a structured way of evaluating one's process, can take the last bits of stress someone might feel.

Learner Assistance

  1. Personalisation of curriculum. Upon enrolment, we gather your specific information to determine your goals and discuss these in a 1-on-1 session at the course's start.

  2. Setting goals together. Understanding your goals is crucial for focusing on your priorities, enabling us to manage your learning process more effectively and alleviate challenges.

  3. Progress evaluations. During the intensive course, we provide two assessment opportunities for self-assessment with your teacher of personal goals and CEFR targets.

  4.  Half-time evaluation. At the course midpoint, we conduct an evaluation covering writing, reading, listening, speaking, and grammar. This allows us to gauge your progress and discuss areas for improvement in a one-on-one session with your instructor.

  5. Exam and retake. At the conclusion of the course, there will be a comprehensive examination. Upon achieving a satisfactory outcome, you will be awarded a certificate corresponding to your CEFR level (A1, A2, B1, B2).
